On today’s #HealthyEats episode of Doc M, he shared how he made a baked salmon recipe extra special and more nutritious.

Salmon fish is known to be potent for healthy bones and teeth. It also helps in protecting your immune system and, together with omega 3, it’s a real help to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

For Doc M’s Baked Sesame Ginger Salmon, he added ginger, known to be an anti-aging ingredient, and sesame, rich in Vitamin E that helps in skin cells protection. He also used Coco Aminos as a soy sauce alternative, which is proven to boost the immune system and is also a good source of fats.

“Whatever we eat, our diet, it affects our overall health,” says the seasoned dermatologist at Skin + Nutrition. “I make sure to choose the right ingredients that are beneficial not only to skin health but overall health,” he added.

He also shared that to be able to boost the immune system, one must start eating a healthy and balanced diet, doing exercise at least 3x a week, getting at least an 8-hour of quality sleep, avoiding and managing stress, and lastly by taking immune boosters to supplement like Vitamin C, D, and Zinc, Omega fatty acids, probiotics 15 B units, and phytonutrients.

I choose the ingredients based on the result of my Food Intolerance Test

Having a healthy diet is the best way to boost the immune system. Knowing which food you’re intolerant to makes it easier to create personalized meal plans for you. Just like Doc M, he prepares the recipe based on the food plan appropriate for his diet. He chooses the ingredients that are readily available which are good sources of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients.

Salmon – has lots of high-quality proteins, which enhance satiety and give you the energy you need during the day. It gives you vitamin D. It’s very useful for the health of bones and teeth, it protects your immune system and, together with omega 3, it’s a real help to keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Coco Aminos – is proven to boost the immune system and is a good source of fats.

Honey – is one of nature’s most revered skin remedies. Thanks to its antibacterial and antiseptic abilities, it may benefit oily and acne-prone skin. Honey is also a natural humectant, so it helps keep the skin moist but not oily. This is because humectants draw moisture from the skin without replacing it.

Ginger – helps preserve your skin’s collagen, making it an all-natural
ingredient for anti-aging routines.

Sesame oil – contains vitamin E, which can help protect skin cells from the damage caused by environmental factors, such as UV rays, pollution, and toxins. Sesame oil also contains several phenolic compounds, which give it its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.

Sesame seeds – help the skin remain warm and moist. They are rich in anti-inflammatory properties that are vital in healing redness and other facial skin issues by getting rid of pathogens and other agents causing skin infections.

Brown sugar – boosts energy and helps improve digestion.

Garlic – has antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and antiseptic properties from allicin. Allicin helps to kill the bacteria causing acne. It also helps to reduce swelling and inflammation, and improve blood circulation. These beneficial effects allow the skin to receive more nutrients.

6 Easy Steps for a Nutritious Dish

  1. To make the glaze, whisk together honey, Coco Aminos, sesame oil, Sriracha, ginger, and sesame seeds in a small bowl; set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together olive oil, Coco Aminos, rice vinegar, sesame oil, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame seeds, and green onions.
  3. In a gallon size Ziploc bag or large bowl, combine ginger marinade and salmon fillets; marinate for at least 30 minutes to overnight, turning the bag occasionally.
  4. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly coat a 9×3 baking dish with nonstick spray.
  5. Place salmon fillets along with the marinade onto the prepared baking dish and bake until the fish flakes easily with a fork, about 20 minutes.
  6. Serve salmon immediately with honey-ginger glaze.
